Background

The NOTaS foundation was established in March 2001 by N.V. BOM, Knowledge  Concepts, Katholieke Universiteit Brabant, Technische Universiteit Eindhoven, GIOS Voice Professionals,  ManWard, ORCAvoice, Polderland Language & Speech Technology and Van Dale Data.

The initial emphasis on organisations from the Dutch province of North Brabant was quickly decreased by the arrival of companies and academic institutions from the rest of the Netherlands. Since the end of 2004, NOTaS has also welcomed participants and visitors from Flanders and other European countries. Anyone involved in Dutch language and speech technology is welcome to participate.

Mission

The NOTaS foundation was set up to encourage and support the use of Dutch language and speech technology (HLT).

NOTaS participants are companies. Academic institutions, universities and social and other organisations involved in research into Dutch HLT or the development and production of HLT-related applications.

NOTaS realise sits aims for example by:

  • Organising network events at intersting locations
  • Publishing the HLT magazine, Dixit
  • Organising conferences, seminars and master classes on HLT
  • Encouraging cooperation between HLT partners
  • Representing participants at (international) exhibitions and conferences
  • Acting as the contact, nationally and internationally for government and the business sector
  • Maintaining a network of key players and organisations in the HLT sector
